Henryville, Indiana

The March Lion was in full force that Friday afternoon

The small town was put on the map by an EF4 tornado

One of the hardest hit places was the Henryville School district, where there was plenty of carnage.

Miraculously, everyone in the school building survived.

Along the length of the entire path, eleven people died.

Why does this little town attract me?
In the Weather Channel series "Tornado Alley," (the first few minutes of the documentary) storm chasers are driving along rolling hills as the tornado heads for Henryville.  The bridge coming from Louisville, KY into the Indiana state line also draws my attention to the scenery.  I went to school in a place with plenty of rolling hills and heavily forested (the piedmont of Virginia).

First snow of the season 1.4.16

Today, there were some snow flurries across Central Virginia...no wonder it was so cloudy and cold when it was forecasted to be mostly sunny.  I figured I would find pictures online for inspiration.

I was an aide for a group of special ed kids before break and already knew the kids were going crazy  during science class.  The teacher I worked with told me it was the "BEST SCIENCE CLASS EVER!" with all the snow coming down.

The flurries inspired me to put up this video by Tim Story and hopefully this will bring back childhood memories.

Imagine this being your scenery after the snow is done...in this case the flurry became snow showers accumulating on the grass and just in time to see the sunset.

Snow events that I thought about today?  snow event in February 2006 while I was in college (see below).

Think back to a certain time in your childhood:  What time was it?  What do you remember about that time period?  Think of music artists that stick out, songs that make you think of a certain place or time; think of memories that may not be significant to most but are important to you no matter how small it might seem--a trip, a movie, something at school (something small but important to you), etc.
One time period I'm thinking of is the late 90s and early 2000s: The junior and senior high school years.  My sister was into artists like NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Eric Benet, Tony Toni Tone, and Donnell Jones for example and graduated from the high school I currently sub long term (Clover Hill High in Midlothian, VA).  The artists my sister listened to were memories I keep today.  For some reason, that area takes me to certain places in my mind.  Examples:  I think of Disney Channel shows from the late 90s and 2k years when I think of Midlothian such as Lizzie McGuire, Phil of the Future, and The Famous Jett Jackson.
10th and 11th grade music artists:  Pieces of a Dream "Enmascarada"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNCrFw_qmxw
--Thought about the song Thursday am while walking around the school...
--other artists:  Joyce Cooling, Richard Eliot, Chris Botti, Marc Antoine, Peter White, David Benoit, Spyro Gyro, Trammell Starks, The Rippingtons, Kenny G, Dave Koz, Wayne Gerard, Herbie Hancock, Russ Freeman, Sting, Boney James, Yellow Jackets
Any music artists or memories from middle or high school?
2010:  music that brought back memories of elementary school
--Mark Sloniker, Lao Tizer, Michelle Tumes, Point of Grace, Michael W. Smith -- "Freedom", Kenny Loggins, Beth Michaels
--Imagine a fall afternoon driving along, school is letting out, school buses on the road, leaves on the ground, and kids playing outside...
Do you have memories that stick out to you about elementary school?

blog 2.0

After four years of not posting on a regular basis, I am coming back to blogger.

I have been on wordpress, but most of my posts are archives of events from the past few years.

What brings me back today?  I tried submitting pictures on shutterstock but wasn't accepted since I do not have a professional camera...so it left me wondering what am I going to do with the pictures that I have taken over the past decade.

So the blog will undergo major renovation and is experimental (not sure how long this blog will stay updated).
